DSAO and Able Sail Toronto Queens Quay

Queens Quay Disabled Sailing GOAL is to:

  1. Provide safe sailing opportunities for people with disabilities.
  2. Facilitate rehabilitation and social integration for children and adults with disabilities.
  3.  Provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop sailing skills and attain personal goals.
  4.  Enable high-level quadriplegics and others with severe mobility impairments to sail independently.
  5.  Above all, help members strive for greater independence and quality of life.

QQDSP is dedicated first and foremost to the safety of our members and volunteers

Recreational sailing times are available from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays to Sundays. Each 2 hour sail cost $15.

The “Get on Board” youth program runs Mondays and Tuesdays from July to August.

Special events, such as our Around-the-Island sails and barbecues run periodically throughout the summer.

Racing is available on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. These times are available to strengthen the racing abilities of our sailors in order to compete in regattas in Ontario and throughout Canada.

We offer organizations which serve people with disabilities to bring groups to the waterfront for a sail in one of two Sonar keelboats.

The QQDSP has a fleet of six Martin 16 two person sloops designed specifically for people with disabilities, including weighted  keels to prevent capsizing. QQDSP has specialized equipment to increase the accessibility of the program. From specialized Martin 16 sailboats, to lift systems, and staff and volunteers trained in approved transfer techniques, QQDSP can get you on the water!

Volunteers are an integral part of QQDSP. They help out as transfer assistants, sailing companions, and event and social  coordinators. Without volunteers, the QQDSP program could not function.

The Queens Quay Disabled Sailing Program relies on support from corporate and private sponsors. Their funding allows us to deliver our program to the community.

Funding is needed for program staff wages, new equipment purchases, insurance, docking fees and boat maintenance.
